Frequently asked questions
Will Skrib train AI on my writing?
No. Your writing is yours. Skrib does not use your work to train AI models.
What is Companion?
Companion is the writing partner inside Skrib. It receives the active view and current project; use @ when you want to add other work as context. It suggests. You decide.
Can I use Skrib without any AI?
Yes. Choose “I write without AI” at sign-up, or the Purist plan. Same studio, no Companion anywhere in it.
What is Audit?
Audit is a planned process-based approach to showing how work was written. It is not available in the studio today, and its final mechanics and timing may change.
Where do my files live?
On the Skrib cloud. Sync status in the right rail confirms saving and shows the last-synced time. Export at any time to your own computer.
Can I import my existing manuscript?
Yes. Manuscript and General projects accept DOC, DOCX, ODT, FODT, Markdown, Text, PDF, and EPUB. Screenplays accept FDX, Fountain, Text, DOC, DOCX, ODT, FODT, and PDF. Import it as a Draft when you want to edit it; upload it to the Library when it is reference material.
Can I export my work?
Yes. Manuscript and General projects export to PDF, DOCX, EPUB, Text, and Markdown. Screenplays export to FDX, Fountain, and PDF. Export works even in read-only mode.
Is there a Save button?
No. Skrib saves continuously and shows sync status on the right. Cmd+S on Mac or Ctrl+S elsewhere asks it to sync immediately.
Does Skrib work on mobile?
Use Skrib in a desktop or laptop browser. The mobile app is not ready yet.
Is there a dark mode?
Yes. Settings, Account, Theme: System, Light, or Dark.
Can two people write together in real time?
Not yet. Skrib is single-author today; co-writing is planned.
What does Skrib cost?
Skrib has Free and paid choices with and without Companion. Purist includes Free, Pro, and Lifetime; Companion includes Free, Basic, Pro, and Max. Open Plan & Billing for current prices and limits.
What happens when my trial ends?
The workspace becomes read-only: you can still open and export everything, but creating or changing work requires an available paid plan. Nothing is deleted.
What kind of project should I choose?
Choose Manuscript for books and long-form fiction, Screenplay for formatted scripts, and General for essays, blogs, journals, reports, and other non-fiction work.
How do I open two things side by side?
Open the first item, click split view in the right rail, then choose the second item. See Tabs, pins, split screen, full screen.
Where do I report a bug?
Open the question-mark menu in the right rail and choose Send report, or email bugs@skrib.com.
