Import and export

The rule that sorts everything: a manuscript you want to write in becomes a Draft. Reference material you want to consult goes to the Library or onto the Plan.

Three doors for importing a manuscript

  1. At creation: New Project, then Import draft. The file becomes the project’s Draft.
  2. Into an existing project: My Drafts, plus button, Import. The file lands as a new draft alongside the others.
  3. From Draft Options: the three-dot menu at the top of the Draft’s left rail also carries Import.

For a Manuscript or General draft, supported formats are .doc, .docx, .odt, .fodt, .md, .markdown, .txt, .pdf, and .epub. For a Screenplay draft, use .fdx, .fountain, .txt, .doc, .docx, .odt, .fodt, or .pdf. Block structure is preserved where the file carries it. Word imports usually keep headings and bold; PDFs sometimes lose paragraph breaks; Final Draft and Fountain carry screenplay structure most reliably.

Bringing in reference

Upload reference material to the Library, or drag a supported file onto the Plan, paste it, or use Upload. The Plan accepts images, PDF, Word, CSV, TSV, Excel, and PowerPoint. Word becomes an editable Note; Web Link, YouTube, and Spotify are separate embed choices.

Export

Draft type Export formats
Manuscript or General PDF, DOCX (Word), EPUB, Text, Markdown
Screenplay FDX (Final Draft), Fountain, PDF

Export lives in Draft Options (Export as). Notes export on their own as PDF, DOCX, Text, or Markdown from the Note menu. Conversion preserves supported structure where possible, so review the result after an import or export. Export works in read-only mode: your work is never locked in.
